Overview:
Flushing Hospital Medical Center is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Mandarin-speaking Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our outpatient healthcare team. This role focuses on providing exceptional care to Mandarin-speaking patients, ensuring effective communication and culturally sensitive treatment in a diverse healthcare environment. The NP will be integral in diagnosing, treating, and managing various medical conditions, while also facilitating strong connections between patients and the healthcare team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducting comprehensive physical exams and thorough patient assessments.
- Diagnosing and managing common medical conditions and illnesses.
- Ordering, interpreting, and acting upon diagnostic tests.
- Prescribing medications and developing personalized treatment plans.
- Managing chronic diseases, including but not limited to diabetes and hypertension.
- Providing preventive care, health education, and lifestyle modification counseling.
- Serving as a bridge between Mandarin-speaking patients and the non-Mandarin-speaking healthcare team, ensuring clear communication.
- Delivering culturally competent to Mandarin-speaking community.
- Providing patient education and counseling,
- Coordinating referrals to specialists, therapists, or community resources as necessary.
- Accurately documenting patient interactions, progress, and treatment plans in the electronic health record (EHR).
Job Requirements:
- Master’s or Doctorate Degree in Nursing (MSN or DNP) from an accredited institution.
- Active NYS Registered Nurse License
Clinical Experience:
- Minimum 1-3 years of nursing experience, with a preference for acute or primary care settings.
- Prior experience as an NP in outpatient, primary care, or specialty care is highly desirable.
- Experience working with Mandarin-speaking patients or in bilingual healthcare settings is strongly preferred.
Licensure & Certifications:
- Valid NYS state Nurse Practitioner License. DEA Registration for prescribing controlled substances (if applicable).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Fluent in Mandarin (both spoken and written)
- Experience in primary care, internal medicine, or urgent care settings.
- Knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) or cultural health practices is a plus, but not required.
- Previous work in immigrant or bilingual healthcare settings is an advantage
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong problem-solving
