Dear Members, Colleagues, and Community Partners:

Happy 2026 and beyond!

It is a great honor to serve as President of the Chinese American Nurses Association for the 2025–2026 term. I am deeply grateful for the trust you have placed in me, and I look forward to working alongside each of you to advance our shared mission.

As healthcare continues to evolve, collaboration has never been more essential. This year, our focus will be on strengthening partnerships with other healthcare organizations, professional associations, and community groups. By working together across disciplines and cultures, we can amplify our impact and better address the diverse needs of the communities we serve.

Our goal is clear: to promote high-quality, equitable healthcare services for all. Through collaborative initiatives—such as community health outreach, educational programs, preventive care efforts, and advocacy—we aim to improve access to care, enhance health literacy, and reduce disparities. We are especially committed to serving underserved and culturally diverse populations, ensuring that care is not only effective, but also compassionate and culturally responsive.

I encourage each member to actively engage in these efforts. Your expertise, dedication, and voice are vital as we build meaningful connections with our partners and expand our reach in the community.

Together, we can create a stronger, more inclusive healthcare system—one that reflects our values of excellence, service, and unity.

Thank you for your continued commitment to our profession and to the communities we proudly serve.

Sincerely,

Anthony Lam, RN, BSN

From the desk of Ada Leung, RN, MPH
CANA President

Dear distinguished members and friends,

On behalf of the Chinese American Nurses Association (CANA) Board of
Directors, I would like to welcome you to the first issue of CANA
Global CONNECT.

CANA was established in 1997 by a group of Chinese American nurses in
New York and obtained 501 (c)(3) status as a tax-exempt non-profit
organization in 2010. Through the organization, members develop
professional and personal networks, conduct healthcare activities and
carry on our goals, such as promoting quality health care services to
the community.

2016 is an exciting year for CANA! One of the milestones is that Dr.
Mei R. Fu has agreed to take the lead on the Scholarship Committee and
the Chief Editor to launch the CANA Global CONNECT, the official news
magazine of the Chinese American Nurses Association (CANA).

CANA Global CONNECT is a platform to reach out to nurses and other
health care professionals globally. In sharing our knowledge and
experiences, we can promote our health care professional standards and
ultimately improve our nursing health care services for our community
– the mission of CANA.

We are confident that under the leadership of Dr. Mei R. Fu, the CANA
scholarship committee and CANA Global CONNECT will serve the community
to a level, we cannot imagine!

Last, but not least, I would like to express our appreciation to Dr.
Mei R. Fu and her team for their dedication to making this happen. We
believe this newsletter can connect you to our nursing family and hope
you will enjoy it.
