Thank you for your help!

Thank you to all who have donated, supported, and promoted CANA’s PPE Drive. All of you helped us raise over $10,000 in monetary donations. We have already sent out PPE equipment to Elmhurst Hospital, Flushing Hospital, New Franklin Center for Rehabilitation, and Union Plaza Care Center.

If you would like to continue supporting front-line healthcare workers, please send your donations directly to health care facilities.

And if you wish to continue supporting CANA for our year round efforts, you can still donate to our organization. Please check out our Facebook page to stay updated and connected! Thank you for taking care of our community!

According to CDC while there is currently no vaccine to prevent the Covid19 virus, these simple steps can help stop the spread of this and other respiratory viruses:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

For handwashing information see CDC’S Handwashing website: https://www.cdc.gov/handwashing/

Cindy Yap, BSN, RN, one of board members of Chinese American Nurses Association (CANA) was invited by Chinese Christian Herald Crusades (CCHC) to attend the Coronavirus Forum. CANA was also invited to the news press hosted by Chinese American Medical Society and Charles Wang Community Health Center in Chinatown, Manhattan on January 28, 2020. NYC DOH Commissioner and other community physicians were there to address the novel Coronavirus. DOH is scheduled Webex and phone conference next week to update all healthcare organizations, including CANA.  People who want to receive the official information should go to CDC and WHO website.

From the desk of Ada Leung, RN, MPH
CANA President

Dear distinguished members and friends,

On behalf of Chinese American Nurses Association (CANA) Board of
Directors, I would like to welcome you to the first issue of CANA
Global CONNECT.

CANA was established in 1997 by a group of Chinese American nurses in
New York and obtained 501 (c)(3) status as a tax exempt non-profit
organization in 2010. Through the organization, members develop
professional and personal networks, conduct healthcare activities and
carry on our goals, such as promoting quality health care services to
the community.

2016 is an exciting year for CANA! One of the milestones is that Dr.
Mei R. Fu has agreed to take the lead on the Scholarship Committee and
the Chief Editor to launch the CANA Global CONNECT, the official news
magazine of the Chinese American Nurses Association (CANA).

CANA Global CONNECT is a platform to reach out to nurses and other
health care professionals globally. In sharing our knowledge and
experiences, we can promote our health care professional standard and
ultimately improve our nursing health care services for our community
– the mission of CANA.

We are confident that under the leadership of Dr. Mei R. Fu, the CANA
scholarship committee and CANA Global CONNECT will serve the community
to a level we cannot imagine!

Last, but not least, I would like to express our appreciation to Dr.
Mei R. Fu and her team for their dedication in making this happen. We
believe this newsletter can connect you to our nursing family and hope
you will enjoy it.
